On 25th Sept, Adam Hill will be competing in the Australian Natural Bodybuilding NSW Championships at the Castle Hill RSL.
Many of you might be wondering what is this all about. Read on.

19th July 2011 I have now completed 4 weeks of the dieting phase and things are going well. It has been an interesting couple of weeks - Ebanie decided we needed to drop the calories down slightly which had an immediate effect!
I am really looking forward to this weekend as I am spending a couple of hours with some very experienced bodybuilders to help me with my posing. I am learning a completely new sport in 12 weeks. There’s so much to learn!
The next couple of weeks look pretty tough - the cardio is increasing and the calories reducing further. Apparently this is the time where your mind starts to play tricks on you; there are stories of body builders walking up and down the biscuits isles in supermarkets reading the packaging looking for a way to justify to themselves they can have some.
In saying all that, it's not that bad. I’m still eating a large amount of food, in some cases probably 2 times what some of you would normally eat. I thought I might share some of the food to give you an idea -
Breakfast- 9 egg whites, 1 egg, 1 cup of oats Afternoon Tea- 9 egg white omlette, spinach Morning Tea- protein shake and sweet potato Dinner- 240 grams of fish, broccoli Lunch- 240g of chicken, sweet potato and spinach Bedtime- glutamine and vitamins

Over the past few years, watching James make incredible achievements with his rehabilitation and seeing others go to amazing lengths to raise money and awareness for the Puffin Magic Foundation, I felt it was my turn to roll up my sleeves.
The question I asked myself was, “How can I make a contribution?” Others have run marathons, swum channels, organized black tie events for thousands - the list goes on. I, on the other hand, can’t run across the street, have the properties of a rock in water and possess the organizational skills of a 3 year old, which leaves me little choice. My passion has always been lifting weights, so why not compete in a natural bodybuilding competition? The fact that I was once a 122kg front row forward with somewhat questionable genetics for a ripped posing athlete, only enhances the appeal and explains why I feel there will be many people out there who might be willing to support me in this venture, if for nothing more than to laugh at someone in fluro pink speedos looking like he stepped out of the African jungle.
The journey so far has not been easy. The training has stepped up each week, yet my commitment has changed - I now have a purpose and a goal. Whereas a few months ago it didn’t matter if the last few reps weren’t completed, it now matters seriously, knowing I will have to appear on stage soon. I can guarantee my competition is training hard as well!
The attached photo (labelled ‘Before’) was taken at the end of the bulking stage and just prior to the diet phase. You’ll be able to see the transformation as we post new photos on the website throughout the diet phase.
The 18th of June 2011 was not only memorable because it was my sister’s birthday, it was also the day my life was turned inside out! I received diet instructions from Ebanie (my trainer) and spent the morning shopping for the goodies I needed, coupled with a truckload of vitamins and protein powders.
I was good to go, but by Saturday afternoon my head felt like it was going to explode. The headache was unbearable. Sunday morning’s aspirin did little to stem the pounding. A message from Ebanie came through, “Oh, by the way, you may feel tired, sick, headachy during the early stage of the diet!” Was she serious? What an understatement! I am told this is due to the detox process the body goes through when sugar, processed food and dairy are eliminated from the diet. It's like you are trying to come off heroine. Who would have thought such simple foods could have such an effect on the body?
In addition, my current training regime includes 60 minutes of cardio every morning, 5 weights sessions a week plus 20 mins cardio.
Protein shakes, posing training (to isolate certain muscles and promote others) and pumping iron aren’t much to look forward to, but seeing Adam in his fluro pink speedos with spray tan from head to toe surely is.

UPDATE 4 JULY 2011
Two weeks into the dieting phase and things are going well. The hardest thing is saying ‘no’ to temptations - they are everywhere! It's not until you have restrictions that you realize how easy it is to overeat! Whereas a week ago I would see an apple, pick it up and eat it, I now can't do that. And the number of times during the day you walk past food (particularly in the city) and are drawn in by the smells and sights is amazing.
Training has stepped up again; the rest periods between sets have dropped to 45sec and the overall volume (repetitions X sets) has gone up. We are starting posing this week, which is really hard, both physically and technically. There is a lot to learn in this amazing sport. I have a new admiration for the professional body builders and how they continue to do this year on year.
